Why "New Year, New Me" is a burnout trap (and what to do instead)

Why "New Year, New Me" is a burnout trap (and what to do instead)

We’ve all been there: 1st January arrives, and we feel like we can conquer the world. We set huge, annual goals that look great on paper, but by week three, the "static" of real life - work, school, and daily stress - starts to drown out that initial spark.

I know from experience that trying to make any significant change in your life needs a journey, not a quick fix. If you find yourself losing steam, it isn’t a lack of willpower; it’s usually because the goal was too big and the foundation wasn’t steady enough.

The Motivation Trap vs. The Steady Rhythm

Traditional resolutions often follow a predictable (and exhausting) path:

  • The Peak: High energy, big promises, and "New Year, New Me" pressure.
  • The Dip: Life gets busy, a "bad day" happens, and the pressure to be perfect leads to burnout.
  • The Drop: We give up entirely because the annual goal feels too far away to reach.

There is a lighter way to do this. Instead of one giant mountain to climb for 12 months, we are breaking it down into simple, achievable acts.

The Alternative: Designing Your Next Chapter

I created the Design Your Next Chapter collection to help you build a life that actually fits, piece by piece.

  • Stop the annual overwhelm with the 90-Day Roadmap: By focusing on just 90 days at a time, your goals stay visible and manageable. It helps you stay grounded when things get tough.
  • Clear the mental fog with the Life Design Guide: Before you add new tasks, we audit your life pillars to see what you actually need to feel cared for.
  • Anchor your progress with the Journaling Kit: Using tactile tools like vellum and stickers becomes a safe, creative outlet for stress.

Let’s Change the Trajectory Together

You don’t have to 'strut your stuff' perfectly every single day. It’s okay to have bad days. The goal of this collection is to invite joy back into your routine, even when the sunshine feels hard to find.

P.S. Don't forget - buying the physical kit gets you a seat at our Live Journal-With-Me on 11th January at 12pm. Let’s set up a rhythm that actually lasts, together.
